Entry No. 5 — The Lives That Were Here

The Lives That Were Here

Every abandoned house was once someone’s whole world.

Someone stood at the sink.
Someone waited by the window.
Someone came home tired.
Someone raised children, made mistakes, and laughed in rooms that now have holes in the roof.

Then somehow, life moved on.

The weeds grew.
The names disappeared.
But the stories stayed behind.

For a while, anyway.

Because the truth is, most of us will be forgotten sooner than we imagine. The houses will fall. The things we owned will disappear. Even the people who remember our names will one day be gone.

Maybe that is not a reason to believe life matters less.

Maybe it is a reason to live like it matters now.

Love people while they are here.
Say what needs to be said.
Notice the life happening around you.

This life does not matter because it will be remembered forever.

It matters because it is being lived today.

One ordinary decision at a time.
